Locations and Hours

What a Volunteer Tax Preparer does:

  • Talk with clients to gather necessary information to prepare their tax return
  • Prepare tax returns by entering data into TaxWise software
  • Explain the tax return to the client and answer questions
  • Ask the Tax Center Manager and Volunteer Coordinator any questions you may have – we’re always available to help you
  • We will teach you how to prepare taxes in up to 10 hours of training
  • After the training, volunteer tax preparers will take a test to be certified by the IRS

Volunteer Tax Preparers should be comfortable:

  • Using Windows based software
  • Working with people from all walks of life
  • Volunteering in a fast paced environment

Other Ways to volunteer for the Community Tax Centers:

Intake Specialist:

  • Welcome clients to the tax center
  • Review and organize client documents
  • Talk with clients to gather necessary information to prepare their tax return
  • Attend a 3 hour training

Translator:

  • 20% of our clients speak only Spanish
  • Use your language skills to help clients understand the filing process
  • No tax law knowledge required!
  • Orientation will be provided

Time Requirements for all volunteers:

From January to April volunteers commit to at least one 3 hour shift per week or 36 hours.
